In the midst of the contact prohibitions and rising case numbers internationally, a holiday occurred and challenged jewish people across the globe to figure out how to hold a community meal over Zoom.
Pesach (Passover) was quite unique this year. But once the food was eaten and digested, it was time for another holiday. A semi holiday that does not just go for a day or two, or even a week… it lasts for seven whole weeks.
The Omer time. A period of time that has changed dramatically in the meaning associated with it since its inception in the Torah. For seven weeks, starting after Passover, you count every day and then it’s Shavuot, another major holiday. Through Kabbalah, a medieval mystic approach to Judaism, enhances the time with meaning and modern approaches encourage to use the period of time to grow, spiritually, and be a better person by Shavuot.
I made an artistic challenge out of it, making a new illustration every single day to document my interpretation of the themes and my thoughts about them.
